This area has been a very dear part of my life. In the 1800's my ancestors homesteaded near this location and established their roots in a house made of sod. My parents still live a short distance away in the same county. These whisperings of the past, along with the soft greens and pinkish toned brule clay and limestone motivated the painting. These cliffs, rising 4600 feet above sea level, were a prominent 19th century landmark on the Oregon Trail and Mormon Trail.
